Coodu trust has been working extensively in 14 districts of Tamil Nadu on watershed development and livelihoods developments of the rural communities. The main components of the watershed programmes are community mobilization, awareness creation, training, conducting Partipatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Conducting Socio Economic surveys, mid term evaluation, impact evaluation, documentation and state level IEC material preparation for the components of watershed. The whole exercise was covered for the 522 village Panchayats in Tamil Nadu.
As a part of the component in watershed development Coodu Trust was instrumental in forming 290 CBOs in 9 districts of Tamil Nadu. These associations are the responsible units for the follow up activities and working for the sustainability of the project. All these CBOs were formed, trained and maintained.

Narrative description of Project:Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) Scheme is under implementation since 2010-11, and has come to this Department along with the National Wastelands Development Board. The development of non-forest wastelands is taken up under this Scheme. The scheme provides for the development of an entire micro watershed in an holistic manner rather than piecemeal treatment in sporadic patches. The thrust of the scheme continues to be on development of wastelands.The basic objective of this scheme is an integrated wastelands development based on village/micro watershed plans. These plans are prepared after taking into consideration the land capability, site condition and local needs of the people. The scheme also aims at rural employment besides enhancing the contents of people’s participation in the wastelands development programmes at all stages, which is ensured by providing modalities for equitable and sustainable sharing of benefits and usufructs arising from such projects. | |
