Total Sanitation Campaign is a comprehensive programme to ensure sanitation facilities in rural areas with broader goal to eradicate the practice of open defecation. It follows a principle of “low to no subsidy” where a nominal subsidy in the form of incentive is given to rural poor households for construction of toilets. The project is being implemented in rural areas taking district as a unit of implementation.
The scope of activities under Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) include the view of Water and Sanitation Campaign devise measures to reduce mortality / morbidity due to such water – related diseases, undertake various activities under TSC include construction of individual household latrines the establishment and managing of Rural Sanitary Mart would supply hardware sanitary materials for construction of toilets, construction and supervision of village sanitary complex for Women, up-gradation of Rural Sanitary Latrines, construction of School Toilets and school sanitation awareness programme, construction of Baby-Friendly Toilets and toilets for Anganwadi centres, Waste Water Management, Solid Waste Management, reduction of Pollution in the villages and integrated environmental protection and development.
In order to improve the sanitation conditions of the rural poor we built 10222 individual household low cost latrines in 11 districts. As part of the women economic development activity we are running a rural sanitary mart at our Training center in Mylampatti is managed by trained women.
